Where ships dock

  • Port of Arica (Terminal Puerto Arica), a working container port beside the city centre; a shuttle takes you from the ship to the port gate

Getting to town

Foot traffic isn't allowed in the container port, so a short shuttle runs from the ship to the gate. From there, Plaza Colón, the San Marcos cathedral and the pedestrian street (21 de Mayo) are about a 10 minute walk, under the bluff of the Morro.

Walk the centre. Taxis wait outside the port gate and Uber operates. A taxi up to the Morro saves a steep, hot climb. The Azapa valley museum is about 12 km away (taxi or tour).
