You walk straight off the pier into town; the villages need a taxi, car or tour.
Where ships dock
- The central port of Chios Town, on the island's east coast, inside the town itself (cruise pier about 200 m)
- Small ships sometimes use the port of Mesta in the southwest, about 35 km from Chios Town
- Larger ships may anchor and tender into Chios Town harbour
Getting to town
The port is part of the town: the waterfront, taxi rank and main bus station are a few minutes' walk away, and Chios Castle, Vounaki Square and the Aplotaria shopping street are 5 to 15 minutes on foot.
Walk the town and castle. For the mastic villages of Pyrgi and Mesta (about 25 to 35 km south) and the Nea Moni monastery (about 15 km inland), take a taxi, hire car or tour: KTEL buses run, but not often enough for most port days. Agree taxi fares before you set off.
Fares are as reported by the sources below and change often. Treat them as estimates.
