Lovely islands nearby, but you need a shuttle or taxi off a bare quay first.
Where ships dock
- Ishigaki Port cruise quay (Shinko district International Wharf) on the reclaimed island of Painuhama, south-west of downtown. All ships dock here; no tender.
Getting to town
There is no terminal building at the quay: just toilets and temporary immigration, with no shop, Wi-Fi, exchange or ATM. Only some cruise lines run a free shuttle to the island-ferry terminal downtown; the city runs none. A taxi is about 10 minutes (about ¥830 to ¥970). Walking takes 40 to 50 minutes over a high bridge.
Taketomi island is 10 to 15 minutes by ferry from the island-ferry terminal (Anei Kanko or YKF; about ¥970 one way). Kabira Bay is about 35 to 40 minutes by taxi, or take Azuma Bus route 9 from the bus terminal (about ¥770 each way; tap a contactless card). The public market and Yaeyama soba shops are a few minutes' walk from the ferry terminal.
