A lovely, compact old harbour, but you need a shuttle from the industrial port.
Where ships dock
- Môle d'Escale cruise berth, Port Atlantique La Rochelle (La Pallice commercial port), about 7 km by road from the city centre
Getting to town
You can't walk out: pedestrians are not allowed in the commercial port. Cruise lines run shuttle coaches (price varies by ship) to central La Rochelle, roughly 15 to 20 minutes away. Use the drop-off point and last-return time your ship gives you.
Central La Rochelle is flat and walkable once you are dropped off. Yélo bus ILLICO 1a links La Pallice (La Sirène stop) with Place de Verdun and the station, about €1.50 one way, but you still need the shuttle or an authorised taxi to get out of the port. Île de Ré is a separate outing by tour or pre-booked transfer.
