Where ships dock

  • No. 3 Wharf (used for every call since 2024; takes ships up to about 140,000 tons)
  • Katsunai Wharf occasionally (needs the ship's bus or a taxi into town)

Getting to town

From No. 3 Wharf the Otaru Canal is about 500 m, 5 to 10 minutes on foot, and JR Otaru Station about 15 minutes. The old town, Sakaimachi glass and music-box shops and the sushi street are all walkable. Keep your cruise card: the port is a restricted area.

JR trains reach Sapporo in about 33 to 35 minutes and Yoichi (Nikka whisky distillery) in about 24 minutes; check return times, as some midday gaps are long. Taxis are few at the pier.
