The State Department rates Oman Level 3 (Reconsider travel), and the port is a shuttle and taxi ride from everything: a ship's tour keeps you on the ship's schedule if plans change at short notice.

Where ships dock

  • Cruise berth inside the Port of Salalah, a working container port at Raysut, about 15 km west of Salalah city. You can't walk out: a free port shuttle takes you to the gate.

Getting to town

From the port gate, Salalah city (Haffa Souq, Haffa beach) is about 25 minutes by taxi or coach. Al Baleed and the Museum of the Frankincense Land are about 30 minutes; Mughsail beach and blowholes are about 45 minutes west.

Ship's tour recommended. Taxis wait beyond the gate: they are unmetered and cash-only, so agree the fare first. Ride-share apps aren't available in Oman (State Department).

Fares are as reported by the sources below and change often. Treat them as estimates.

Safety & tips

  • U.S. State Department warning: Oman is rated Level 3, Reconsider travel, due to the risk of armed conflict and terrorism (advisory issued Aug 30, 2026). It cites an ongoing threat of drone and missile attacks from Iran since February 28, 2026. The Yemen border area, west of Salalah, is Level 4 (Do not travel): don't go toward the border for any reason. Read the advisory before you go ashore.
  • Dress modestly: cover shoulders and knees. Oman's laws on public behaviour are strict.
  • Outside the June to September khareef the heat is severe: bring water and sun protection.
  • Agree taxi fares before you set off.
