Getting to town

Amber Cove is a gated resort-style complex with pools, shops and a small beach. Puerto Plata city is about 7.5 miles (12 km) away, roughly 15–20 minutes by car, so it is not walkable. If your ship uses Taíno Bay instead, the city is only about 2–2.5 miles away.

At Amber Cove, independent travelers use the official taxi dispatch at the transportation archway. Reported round-trip fares to Puerto Plata city vary widely by source (roughly $25–$75 per car), and taxi stands publish set prices to other spots, such as about $40 one way to Playa Dorada for up to 5 people. Confirm the fare at the stand and keep your driver's card for the return.
