Free shuttle to a walkable centre, but Troy and Gallipoli need transport.
Where ships dock
- Kepez Port (Port of Çanakkale), south of the city on the Asian shore of the Dardanelles
Getting to town
Kepez is about 5 km from the city centre, with a private port road before you reach a public street, so walking isn't practical. Complimentary shuttle buses run to the city centre and the Kordon waterfront (GoTürkiye). The municipal Güzelyalı–Esenler bus also stops at Kepez Limanı (about ₺30).
Troy (UNESCO site and Troy Museum at Tevfikiye) is about 20 km south of Kepez: taxi, tour or ship excursion. Gallipoli is across the strait: ferries from central Çanakkale to Eceabat take about 20 to 30 minutes, then you need a vehicle for the battlefield sites, so most people take a tour.
Fares are as reported by the sources below and change often. Treat them as estimates.
Money & entry
Currency: Turkish lira (TRY). Cards are widely accepted; vendors near ports often quote euros or dollars, but lira usually works out cheaper.
Entry: U.S. ordinary passport holders don't need a visa for tourism in Türkiye for up to 90 days in any 180 (Turkish Foreign Ministry). Cruise visitors on shore visits may enter without a visa for up to 72 hours, with local authorities' permission. The U.S. Embassy advises 6 months of passport validity and blank pages for stamps.
