You need the shuttle or a taxi out of the port, but the main sights then sit together on the waterfront.

Where ships dock

  • King George V Wharf (240 m) or Eastern Wharf (185 m), both inside the working Port of Dundee

Getting to town

The port gate is about 1 km from the city centre, but the route runs through an industrial area and you may not walk through the working port. Take the shuttle (Cruise Scotland says one can be arranged) or a taxi to the waterfront by V&A Dundee and Discovery Point.

Shuttle or taxi to the waterfront, then walk: the V&A, RRS Discovery, the city centre and the McManus gallery are all close together. Trains from Dundee station (next to the V&A) reach St Andrews via Leuchars (then a bus) and Edinburgh in about 1 hour 15 minutes; Glamis Castle and St Andrews are easier as a tour.

Fares are as reported by the sources below and change often. Treat them as estimates.

Money & entry

Currency: British pound (£). Contactless cards are accepted almost everywhere.

Entry: U.S. citizens need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before traveling, including on cruises that call at UK ports. It costs £20 on GOV.UK (beware look-alike sites charging more), lasts 2 years or until your passport expires, and since Feb 25, 2026 carriers must refuse boarding without one. Apply on GOV.UK or the official "UK ETA" app. (Checked Oct 2026.)
