Where ships dock

  • Nishikaigan Berths 1 and 2 at Moji (210 m each): about 600 m (7 minutes on foot) from Mojiko Retro and JR Mojiko Station; no shuttle needed
  • Hibikinada-Nishi Berth 6 in Wakamatsu (350 m) for the biggest ships: an industrial berth about 20 km out, with a shuttle bus of about 30 minutes
  • Asano Berth 1 near JR Kokura Station, for small ships

Getting to town

At Moji you walk straight into Mojiko Retro, the restored waterfront of early-1900s buildings. Downtown Kitakyushu (Kokura) is about 15 minutes by JR train from Mojiko Station. From Hibikinada-Nishi you need the ship's shuttle: the city's spec sheet says arranging one is required, and it is about 30 minutes to the centre.

From Moji, walk Mojiko Retro, then take the JR Kagoshima Line from Mojiko Station to Kokura (about 15 minutes) for Kokura Castle. The Kanmon Kisen ferry crosses from Mojiko pier to Karato in Shimonoseki in about 5 minutes, usually every 20 minutes (¥400 one way for adults). Pay with an IC card (Suica, Pasmo or SUGOCA) or cash. From Hibikinada, use the ship's shuttle or a tour.
