Ephesus on your own is doable, but it's a drive and the site is big, hot and busy.
Where ships dock
- Kuşadası cruise port (Ege Port), in town
Getting to town
Kuşadası town and bazaar are right outside the port.
Ephesus is about 18–20 km away: taxis take 20–30 minutes (agree a round-trip fare and which gate). The dolmuş minibus to Selçuk takes about 30 minutes and drops about 1 km from the lower gate.
Fares are as reported by the sources below and change often. Treat them as estimates.
Money & entry
Currency: Turkish lira (TRY). Cards are widely accepted; vendors near ports often quote euros or dollars, but lira usually works out cheaper.
Entry: U.S. ordinary passport holders don't need a visa for tourism in Türkiye for up to 90 days in any 180 (Turkish Foreign Ministry). Cruise visitors on shore visits may enter without a visa for up to 72 hours, with local authorities' permission. The U.S. Embassy advises 6 months of passport validity and blank pages for stamps.
