The U.S. State Department says reconsider travel to Manabí province; use ship tours or vetted transport.
Where ships dock
- Terminal Portuario de Manta (TPM), international piers inside the commercial port; ships dock alongside
Getting to town
You can't walk through the working port. Electric port buses carry passengers between the pier and the cruise terminal at the port entrance (Malecón and Calle 20). A free shuttle usually runs from the terminal to Plaza Cívica on the waterfront, about 15 minutes.
Montecristi, the home of the toquilla-straw "Panama" hat, is about 25 to 35 minutes inland: go with a ship tour or a vetted driver arranged in advance. Don't hail taxis on the street. El Murciélago beach is close to the centre.
Fares are as reported by the sources below and change often. Treat them as estimates.
