A new terminal, and a flat 10 to 15 minute waterfront walk to the colourful old centre.
Where ships dock
- Mindelo Cruise Terminal, Porto Grande (opened June 2025; 400 m quay for two ships)
Getting to town
Ships dock at the dedicated cruise terminal, which separates passengers from the cargo port. Leave the terminal onto Avenida Marginal and walk about 1 km (10 to 15 minutes) along the flat waterfront to Praça Nova (Praça Amílcar Cabral) and the old centre. Some historic streets are cobbled.
Taxis wait at the gate: agree the fare before you get in. Shared minibuses (aluguers) also run around the island but leave when full, so a taxi is more reliable on a port day. For Monte Verde and the island loop, take a taxi tour or the ship's excursion.
Fares are as reported by the sources below and change often. Treat them as estimates.
Money & entry
Currency: Cape Verdean escudo (CVE). Euros are often accepted in tourist businesses, usually with change in escudos; carry small notes.
Entry: U.S. citizens don't need a visa for stays of 30 days or less. Cabo Verde requires pre-registration on the official EASE platform at least 5 days before arrival; cruise passengers should check with their line, which normally handles clearance (U.S. State Department / ease.gov.cv, checked Oct 2026).
