Lovely car-free island, but the best beaches need a boat and a hike.

Where ships dock

  • Anchor off Vila do Abraão and tender (or local schooner) to the Cais Turístico on Praia do Abraão

Getting to town

Tenders land in Vila do Abraão, the island's main village, near the Igreja de São Sebastião and the entrance to Ilha Grande State Park. The island is car-free: everything is on foot or by boat.

Taxi boats run to Praia do Pouso, then a trail of about 20 to 25 minutes leads to Lopes Mendes beach; check the return boat times. Schooner trips visit the Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde. Short trails from Abraão lead to Praia Preta and the old aqueduct.
