Where ships dock
- Many ships anchor in Douglas Bay and tender to the pontoon between Victoria Pier and King Edward VIII Pier, with a link bridge to the Sea Terminal
- Some ships berth alongside at Douglas harbour (in 2025, 18 ships docked and 20 tendered)
Getting to town
The Sea Terminal is at the end of the promenade: the shops of Strand Street, the Manx Museum and the horse tram are all a few minutes' walk.
Walk the town. The horse tram runs along the promenade to Derby Castle in season, where the Manx Electric Railway leaves for Laxey (about 30 to 40 minutes) and Ramsey; at Laxey the Snaefell Mountain Railway climbs to the island's summit. The Steam Railway runs south to Castletown from the station at the head of the harbour. Buses and taxis cover the rest; Go Explore cards cover trains, trams and buses.
Fares are as reported by the sources below and change often. Treat them as estimates.
Money & entry
Currency: Manx pound and British pound (£), used interchangeably on the island. Manx notes aren't accepted in the UK, so spend them before you leave. Cards are widely accepted.
Entry: The Isle of Man is not part of the UK but is in the Common Travel Area. Since Apr 23, 2026 it has its own Electronic Travel Authorisation, and UK, Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man ETAs are mutually recognised, so U.S. citizens need one ETA (£20 on GOV.UK or the official "UK ETA" app; beware look-alike sites), which most will already hold for UK calls. (Isle of Man Government / GOV.UK, checked Oct 2026.)
