Where ships dock
- A commercial berth in the Port of Maputo, right against the Baixa (downtown); the exact berth and gate arrangements vary by call
Getting to town
The Fortress (Fortaleza) is about 10 minutes' walk from the port, and the Central Railway Station and Central Market about 15 to 20 minutes.
Walk the Baixa with care, or use a registered taxi or ride-hail app (agree taxi fares first). The State Department advises against chapas (minibuses) and tuk-tuks. For anything farther, take a tour.

Money & entry
Currency: Mozambican metical (MZN). Cards (usually Visa) work in some places, but carry meticais for markets and taxis; ATMs are often out of order.
Entry: The State Department says tourists staying 90 days or less can enter with an electronic travel authorization (eTA) from the official Mozambique eVisa portal. Your passport needs six months' validity and two blank visa pages. Ask your cruise line how it handles entry for the call. Carry your passport or a notarized copy at all times.
