Getting to town
You can walk out and back. Plaza de España and the modernist centre are about 800 m (10 to 15 minutes); the fortified old town, Melilla la Vieja, is about 1.5 km (20 minutes) along the waterfront.
Melilla is compact and walkable; taxis are available for the hill up to the old town's top. Melilla borders Morocco: don't plan a crossing into Morocco on a cruise day, as border queues are unpredictable.
