A shuttle or taxi ride takes you into a walkable historic centre.

Where ships dock

  • Port of the Americas Rafael Cordero Santiago (Puerto de las Américas), on the south coast of Ponce

Getting to town

The pier is in an industrial port area about 6 km (4 miles) from Plaza Las Delicias, the historic centre. Walking isn't practical: the route follows busy roads with little shade. Ships usually arrange shuttle buses to the plaza, and taxis wait at the pier.

Take the ship's or port shuttle, or a taxi (about 10 to 15 minutes): agree the fare before you set off, and check where the return pick-up is. Uber operates in Ponce, but cars can be scarce on busy ship days, and taxis struggled with demand when Icon of the Seas called in 2025.

Safety & tips

  • Puerto Rico is U.S. territory: no passport is needed for U.S. citizens arriving on a U.S. domestic itinerary, but carry the ID your cruise line requires.
  • Try a scoop at King's Cream, a Ponce favourite near the plaza.
  • On big-ship days, head back to the shuttle or taxi stand early: the return queues are the bottleneck.

⏰ Back to the ship on time

Allow at least 20 minutes from the plaza to the pier plus queue time, and be back 30 minutes before all-aboard.

Ship time can differ from local time. Your ship won't wait for independent travelers.
